Our YMCA Swimming Lessons Program
Wangaratta Indoor Sports & Aquatic centre (WISAC) is proud to offer swimming lessons 48 weeks of the year.
In the past, swimming lessons have been held during the school term with a break over the school holidays. The impact of these periods without lessons can often result in students losing some skills that have been learnt over the term. It can then take several weeks for these skills and techniques to be re-acquired at the start of the following term.
With swimming lessons operating fully between school terms (extra 4 lessons per year) your child will be provided with better continuity in their learning, which will improve their rate of skill acquisition and development. Industry research has found that children who swim year round are able to more quickly develop and maintain self-discipline, motivation and self-confidence.
You have the option of up to 4 make up lessons per year. We understand that there are times when your child may miss the odd lesson for any number of reasons. As long as you let us know prior to the normal lesson time that you will be unable to make it, we will happily organize for your child to complete another class that has a vacancy at the same level, within 14 days of the missed lesson.
Lessons run across April, June/July and September/October school holidays (extra 4 lessons per year).
Direct Debit payments are fortnightly.
The number of fortnightly direct debits is 26.
Optional free suspension will be available for the weeks without any lessons (over the Christmas/New Year period). All suspensions must be processed through customer service.
Up to 4 make up lessons will be available for the calendar year.
Other term based pre-payment options available (terms & conditions apply).
Features for members:
Unlimited access to pools
All Swimming Lesson members can use the aquatic facilities at WISAC on any day at any time with a supervising adult. As an added benefit, Swimming lesson members (students) can enjoy free admission to the Olympic Pool and to any school holiday pool inflatable activities at both WISAC & the Olympic Pool.
SwimDesk Parent Portal
The Swim Desk portal allows you to stay up-to-date with everything you need to know about your child’s progression. You will be given a login to SwimDesk after your child’s first assessment. SwimDesk can be accessed via your computer, smartphone or tablet.
Parent/Teacher Feedback Sessions
Another effective way to stay up to date with the progression of your child through our program is during Feedback Week, held twice a year. Your child’s swim teacher will provide you with the opportunity to ask any questions in relation to your child’s journey to water safety.
Teacher in Charge (TIC)
During peak times we will endeavor to have a TIC available to ensure all queries in relation to your child’s lesson can be answered on the spot. Should a TIC be unavailable please refer all questions to our customer service team.
We are always assessing your child’s progress. We don’t wait until the end of the year to change levels. When children are ready for the next level, we will work with you to find a spot in a class of that level. If we are unable to find a class on a day/time to suit, it is ok for your child to remain in their current class until a spot becomes available. We will ensure your child is added to our waiting list so when there is a vacancy you will be the first to know.
Your child will have the opportunity to participate in a number of themed weeks that might include Easter, Christmas, Footy Colours, Pyjama & Water Safety themes. Each of these weeks may feature dress-ups, competitions or prizes, as well as safety and educational activities. Please find enclosed our 2018 Swimming Lesson calendar which outlines all of the important dates for the year ahead.
Whether you are new to our Swimming Lesson Program or a returning member, the team at WISAC aims to provide you and your child with the highest quality program in a positive, supportive learning environment. We look forward to helping each child build confidence, develop stroke technique and water safety skills while having fun in the water in 2019.
