Walk to School month is a fun and easy way for Victorian primary school kids to build healthy habits for life. The YMCA, Goulburn Ovens TAFE, Northeast Health Wangaratta & Gateway Health in partnership with the Rural City of Wangaratta have successfully obtained funding through VicHealth to promote the 2017 Walk to School program in October.
The 2017 Walk to School program raises awareness of the need for children to make walking part of their daily routine to improve fitness, friendships, the environment and their confidence.
Children can keep track of their walks, with the help of a parent or teacher, using the Walk to School website and their own VIP All Access Pass and wristband.
We want to encourage children to start walking to and from school on the 9th October through to 31st October, and to consider utilising a range of local and free recreational activities to develop a healthy and active lifestyle into the future.
We invite your school to get involved in the 2017 Walk to School Program and will provide registered schools with support and rewards for participation.
How to get involved:
Contact your school and encourage them to register via the Walk to School website.
Then the school will make contact with us at the YMCA and we will get things started to set you up for success as part of the Walk to School program.
