Local Schools achieve Walking Honours!
Students from Carraragarmungee are thrilled to have taken out the Education Region's Walk to School First Prize in recognition of their participation in the Walk to School program in October.
The school which has only 22 students embraced the "get active" message of the Walk to School Program by making the most of opportunities to walk to and from the bus and participating in "Walk Around the School" acitvities.
According to Principal Marie de Prada, the students were enthusiastic about the Walk to School activities, diligently recording their walks or rides to and from school, and also enjoyed the activities provided by Gotafe and the YMCA as part of Walk to School month.
As Regional winner, Carraragarmungee Primary School receives an Ultimate Footy Fun Experience, including an AFL or AFLW player lead footy clinic and AFL player memorabilia.
Region Runner Up Edi Upper Primary School will receive a personakised recorded message from an AFL player and Sherrin footballs for classroom activities.
This year the local Walk to School program partners Rural City of Wangaratta, Gotafe Wangaratta, Gateway Health, Northeast Health and Wangaratta YMCA teamed up to award a $600 sports equipment voucher to the rural and urban schools in the North East with the best participation rates. Along with Carraragarmungee, Appin Park Primary School will enjoy a $600 sports voucher.
With 19 out of 21 local schools involved in the program this year, the local partners were thrilled with the response locally and look forward to building the program even further next October.
