Is there a twinkle in those toes?

The team that brought the first debutante ball for adults to town last year, is on the lookout for a new set of novice dancers to take the floor this coming November.

The Yes Optus Dancing with the Mastars is conducted by Wangaratta YMCA and includes expert dance teaching from well known teacher Deb Ravida.  The event is held to raise funds for YMC A Open Doors – a program that assists local people in need to access programs and facilities at the Wangaratta Indoor Sports & Aquatic Centre.

YMCA Community Development and Communications Specialist Trish Storer says the project team is keen to build on last year’s successful event which raised $10000 for the charity.

“The response last year was incredible.  We had eleven couples who trained under the expert eye of Deb Ravida for 8 weeks in the lead-up to the night.  Many of them said that the event was the one of the best nights of their lives.  They loved the opportunity to learn to dance, to meet new people and then have a great night out dressed in their finery.”

“Some of the dancers were attracted to the deb because they had missed their opportunity to ‘do their deb’ when they were younger.  Some of the ladies simply loved dressing up and having a fun night with friends!”

Pip Nolan was one of last year’s dancers who still has glowing memories of the experience.  “For me it was great to learn to dance and to really step outside my comfort zone.  The night itself was a brilliant – so much fun, and all for a great cause.  I’ve made lifelong friends as well, and really encourage anyone who is thinking about it to give it a go.”

This year’s “Dancing with the Mastars” will be held on 25th November, with dance lessons starting on 24 September.  Dancing experience is not necessary, and individuals who are keen can be matched with another dancer.  All dancers receive a free membership at the Wangaratta YMCA to assist their physical preparedness for the event, and each couple is required to fill tables of guests on the night.

Businesses who are keen to support the event, which is run mostly by volunteers, can contact Trish Storer at Wangaratta YMCA.
