Healthy Mind and Body – Free Yoga and Body Balance Classes
Following on from the enormous success of the Body Balance and Yoga classes held as part of the Rural City of Wangaratta’s Summer in the Parks program, the Wangaratta Indoor Sports & Aquatic Centre is offering free classes during the week of 5 to 11 February – called Body Bliss Week.
Mike Paul, Health and Wellness Director at WISAC, says the outdoor classes proved a massive hit during January, attracting between thirty and fifty participants each session.
“Classes such as Yoga and the Les Mills’ discipline Body Balance are always popular, and especially during a period when people are on leave and looking to enjoy a class outdoors’” says Mr Paul.
Mr Paul said the classes were a great extension to the regular offerings at WISAC which includes a number of similar classes, held in the private, temperature-controlled studio.
“We have eight yoga or balance classes well established on our group fitness schedule and they are always well attended.”
Mr Paul says that fitness classes that include yoga, stretching and meditation have proven health benefits.
“Yoga and meditation when practiced together strengthen the mind body connection, improving overall fitness and well-being. The practice of controlled breathing, combined with yoga poses and mindful exercises, can alleviate stress and anxiety, improve strength and flexibility and generally improve wellbeing.
“Offering the “Body Bliss Week” of free classes is an open invitation for all members of the public to have a taste of Yoga and Body Balance classes with our experienced instructors.”
